Cheri Lynn Conilogue, 62, died on March 1, 2014 from complications relating to a brain tumor.
Cheri was born in Cheyenne, Wyo. on Jan, 29, 1952, to Jean Conilogue of Jasper, Ala., and Earle Conilogue, of Niwot, Colo.
Cheri graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1970. During high school, Cheri was active in Girl Scouts, and was particularly good at sewing, winning a national Make It With Wool competition in her junior year. Cheri won a National Merit Scholarship and attended Colorado Women’s College (now the University of Denver). Cheri spent a year in Taiwan studying Chinese as part of CWC’s studies abroad program, and became fluent in reading and speaking Standard Mandarin.
Cheri joined the US Navy in 1974, where she stayed for 20 years. She was stationed in Adak, Alaska; San Diego, Diego Garcia (twice); the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.; and she finished out her service in Rota, Spain. She was assigned to the repair ship USS Jason and the weapon system testing ship USS Norton Sound. Cheri received a master’s degree in International Relations from the Navy, and taught political science at the Academy for four years.
After retiring from the Navy, Cheri planned to live either in Hong Kong or San Franciso, and chose the latter. After just three years of retirement, at the age of 46, Cheri developed a gioblastoma brain tumor. She was successfully treated and was in remission until late in 2012.
Cheri was a generous, sweet person and a gentle soul with a beaming smile. Her favorite activities, until the tumor robbed her of them in the last few years, were reading while munching pretzels and sipping tea.
She is survived by her brother Alan; his wife Charlene, and his children, Laura and Alex.
Cheri is being cremated, and services will be arranged at a later date.
