City Council approves golf fees increase

Golfers are going to have to put out just a little more green this year to play at the Blackfoot Golf Course.
The Blackfoot City Council unanimously voted to raise golf fees at their meeting Tuesday night. Rates for 18 holes will increase one dollar, with the rate for nine holes increasing 50 cents. A weekend round of 18 holes will now cost $24, with Monday-Thursday rounds at $22.
The cost for an adult season pass increases to $600.
City residents receive a discount, and get $2 off per round or $35 off the season pass.
Mayor Mike Virtue said the rising costs of materials and maintenance are behind the fee increases.
The council also approved the removal of a city ordinance requiring new homes built in the city to have an attached garage. Councilman Chris Jensen said the ordinance may have prohibited some families from constructing homes because they could not afford to build a garage.
The council granted a request to close the east portion of the Jensen Grove greenbelt May 19 for the Blackfoot Marathon and More. The council also approved a request to make the area between Airport Park and the edge of Jensen Grove a no parking area during the race, which will start and end at Airport Park. Race Director Jon Lyksett told the council he anticipates 500-600 runners will participate and 150 volunteers will be stationed throughout the course.
The Groveland Water and Sewer contract was unanimously approved by the council and was signed by the mayor. The council also received presentations from the Meth Project and the Idaho State University Veteran Sanctuary program.
The council plans to discuss a proposed amendment to the catering permit ordinance at their March meeting. The purpose of the amendment is to prevent the abuse of catering permits to operate two businesses under one liquor license.
