City Council makes alleyway a one-way
In an effort to help ease evening congestion in downtown Blackfoot, the Blackfoot City Council unanimously approved a recommendation to make the alley between Broadway and Ash - running from Pacific to Bridge Street - a one-way street at its meeting on Tuesday.
Blackfoot Mayor Mike Virtue explained that a traffic problem is created in the area when evening activities are going on, particularly dance lessons at Downtown Dance studio.
"Traffic gets bunched up from the dance studio and creates a traffic problem for cars coming both ways," Virtue said. "Plus, there's just not enough parking in the area."
Virtue said that Downtown Dance owner Amy Mow has been "great about communicating with her clientele and city officials on the issue" and that local law enforcement will patrol the area closely until the issue is resolved. For more on this story, check out our print or e-editions.
