Clara W. Lent, 97
Clara Wernette Hobley Lent, 97, of West Valley City, Utah formerly of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully, Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Pioneer Valley Hospital in West Valley City, Utah.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1914 at home, 2 ½ miles S.E. of Firth, Idaho, the first of four children born to Eugene and Flora (Handwerk) Wernette.
When she was 5 years old she attended kindergarten at Firth Grade School. Two weeks before she turned 6, she started elementary school at St. Margaret’s Catholic boarding school in Blackfoot, ID and continued until the 8th grade. Later she attended the Catholic High School in Bozeman, MT. After high school, she received a Teaching Certificate from the University of Idaho—Southern Branch (now Idaho State University) in Pocatello, Idaho.
Clara married Norman Ritchie Hobley, October 21, 1937. They had one daughter, Nola Rey, and a son who died at birth. From 1941-44 they lived at The Pacific Mine, near Challis. ID and later at the Blackbird Mine near Forney, ID. From 1950-58, they operated the Blackburn Merc at Springfield, ID. Clara also taught school at Springfield and Aberdeen. Norman died in July of 1959.
Clara married Floyd Robinson Lent, March 14, 1961 and became the mother to his four children, Norman, Roger, Gary, and Coleen. Together they expanded Floyd’s Service in Thomas, ID to include grocery and other convenience items in addition to the gas and service station. After 26 successful years, they sold the store in 1974 and moved to Pingree, ID. They also had a home in Spencer, ID. They enjoyed socializing, dancing, raising horses, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. Floyd died in March of 1993.
She is survived by her children: Roger (Carol), Gary, and Coleen (Dennis) Hanson; son-in-law, Jim Rekart; Grandchildren: Mara (Marc) Hofman, Lex (Debbie) Frasure, Pauline (David)Woodward, Sandie (Mark) Erickson, Kelly (Christine) Lent, Darin Lent, Kay (Chris) Ward, Lisa (Mark) Lehman, Kari (Milan) Malkovich, Darcy (Ray) Potter, Cathy Witham, Kirby (Penny) Hanson, and Holly King, daughter-in-law: Margaret Lent and many great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three siblings: Florian (Opal) Wernette, Irene (Monte Anderson), and George (Jerri) Wernette, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Norman and Floyd, son, Norman, daughter, Nola and three great-grandchildren.
Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, June 12 at 10 am at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 584 W. Sexton, Blackfoot, ID.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with friends on Monday, June 11, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
