Cloris Butler Benson. 97

September 20, 2010

Cloris Butler Benson, 97, passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2010, at home. She looked forward to being reunited with loved ones that had gone before her.
She was born Aug. 3, 1913, to Ethel Jackson and Marion Butler in Driggs where she grew up, went to school and worked on the farm. In 1932 she went to Provo to attend BYU.
On Sept. 12, 1934, she married Winston Benson in the Logan LDS Temple. They raised their family in Blackfoot where she taught kindergarten for 22 years.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many callings. She served in the Idaho Falls Temple for 10 years. She and Winston also
served two missions together– to the Michigan Lansing Mission, and to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. Towards the end of their second mission they decided to stay in Utah where she lived until her death.
Music was an important part of her life. She played both the piano and organ. Winston had a small dance band and over the years the whole family was involved. She learned to play the accordion so she could participate. She loved oil painting and particularly enjoyed doing floral
arrangements and landscapes. She also made many quilts for loved ones.
She is survived by two of her sons and their spouses: L. Jay (Sharon) Benson and Jerry (Calleen) Benson; and by a family of 20 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winston; and three children: Kaye, Lowell and Bryce.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Cobble Creek 1st Ward, 8176 South 5140 West, West Jordan, Utah, where a viewing will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at noon in the Moreland Cemetery where she will be buried.
