Springfield Park is trying to raise money to replace it's homemade swing set with modern playground equipment.
SPRINGFIELD — Nestled along the shore of Springfield Lake in the cozy neighborhood of Springfield lies a park with green grass, a home-built swing and two large tires partially buried in the earth.
Early in 2012, the Springfield Community Park Playground Committee in conjunction with Bingham County Parks and Recreations Department, was formed with the purpose of obtaining playground equipment for the park. The park, currently maintained by county crews, is the only one in the area that will have modern playground equipment if the committee can reach its goal of raising $10,000. The nearest parks are in Aberdeen (16 miles away) and Blackfoot (25 miles away).
Springfield is a tiny community on the north side of the American Falls Reservoir and surrounded by farmlands.
A community yard sale and silent auction will be held on June 30 at the Springfield County Shop lot. Community members are gathering and donating items to be sold. Some items will be reserved and offered for a silent auction.
On Aug. 4 the Springfield Park will be the site of a 5K fun run, a fish fry and other fun activities.
The committee is seeking donations of any type. Contributions of $100 or more will be recognized at the playground site. Donors contributing $500 or more will receive special recognition. Cash donations can be sent to Linda Boherer 1917 W. 850 S. Springfield, ID 83277, Sarah Peck 786 S. 2100 W. Aberdeen, ID 83210 or Sam Chandler 2038 W. 800 S. Springfield, ID 83277. They can also be designated for the playground and directed to Bingham County Parks and Recreation Department to the attention of Craig Rowland.
