BLACKFOOT — Bingham County Treasurer Janice Lawes (left) and Tanna Beal display some of the toys that were collected for children in Haiti. In two weeks, employees in the Bingham County Courthouse and Heinz Frozen Food in Pocatello contributed enough toys to fill two 55-gallon barrels. Some of the items that filled the drums included jump ropes, jacks, bats and balls, baby dolls, games, books and some gently used items.
"I told people to go as basic as you can get," Beal said.
The toys will be shipped to Haiti with supplies for the "To Build a Village" project. Co-directors Beverly Beach from Blackfoot and Katie Tirion from Arizona are presenting the "To Build a Village" project to government officials in Haiti today.
If interested in contributing toys, take the toys to Elmer's at 223 NW Main St. in Blackfoot.
If interested in helping Beach, contributions can be made on her website at www.tobuildavillage.com or by purchasing cleaning or hand sanitizer items at Elmer's.
