Darrell Dale Buttars, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 15, 1937 in Idaho Falls, the son of James LeRoy Buttars and Myrtle Velma Carter.
He graduated from Bonneville High School.
On Feb. 7, 1958, he married BonnieÂ Kummer and together they had two daughters.Â They parted but remained good friends throughout their lives.Â On Sept. 3, 1976, he married Melba Norwood Harris at Island Park and added six more children to the family.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â He was also a past member of the Elks Lodge.
Dale farmed with his father in his younger years.Â He was elected as the first sheriff of Ammon.Â He left law enforcement to work with Loveland Construction and the construction industry took him throughout the West on various projects.Â In the early 80â€™s Dale opened Quality Custom Cabinet.Â He took great pride in his work and was privileged to install beautiful cabinets in many homes in Southeast Idaho. Â
He enjoyed woodworking and made many things for family and friends.Â He liked to snowmobile and four-wheel at his cabin in Island Park.
He is survived by his wife, Melba of Iona;Â daughters, Penny (Mike) Marriott of Riverside, Melanie Forbes of Meridian; step-children, Frank Samargis of Coeur Dâ€™ Alene; Debbie (Ken) Shepherd of Tucson, Ariz.; Julie (Alvin) Turner of Tucson, Ariz.; Lori (Joey) Arce-Torres of Lincoln City, Ore.; and Nancy Harris of Salt Lake City, Utah.;Â brothers, Harold Buttars of Shelley, Dick Buttars of Emmett;Â sisters, Jean Black of California, Beverly Black of Shelley;Â 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Jerold and Lavon Buttars, sisters, Donnetta Ross and Helen Gray and stepson, Rhett Harris.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at Hawker Funeral Home 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot.Â Â
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and for one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
