Dean passed away on May 10, 2013 in his home after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Eliza Eunice Mobley Polatis, seven children, twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Dean and Eliza were married December 4, 1959 in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Born February 2, 1932 in Riverside, Idaho to Christian Polatis and Effie Tanner Polatis. He is one of nine children. Alice Marie Polatis Furniss (Verl); Lowell Tanner Polatis (Ruth) (deceased); JoAnn Polatis (deceased); Joseph Tanner Polatis (Colleen); Daniel Tyler Polatis (JoAnn); Joan Carol Polatis Miles (Henry); Christian Julius (CJ) Polatis (deceased); and Richard Dale Polatis (Kathy).
Dean grew up in Riverside, Idaho area and graduated from Snake River High School. He went into the Army and served for two years during the Korean War. He then served a mission in the Southern States where his Dad had served. When he returned home he went to BYU in Provo and spent some time farming and later selling insurance.
He loved his family and enjoyed going fishing with them. He has eight children: David Dean Polatis (Shauna Kezos); Debra Jerreâ€™a Polatis Chamberlain (Paul); Bifid Euleza Polatis Hymas (Layne); Kelly J Polatis; Matthew Mobley Polatis (Jennifer Guynn); Walter Jonathan Tanner Polatis (Kristi Hatch); Logan DuRo Polatis (Christine Ebermeyer); Kari Marie Polatis (deceased). He had many fishing buddies and this was a fun part of his life.
He enjoyed teaching the gospel and going with the missionaries on appointments while living in Georgia in recent years. They enjoyed taking him with them because he had so many scriptures memorized. The gospel meant so much to him. He served as Elderâ€™s Quorum President, teacher, member of the high council and High Priest group leader. He enjoyed playing the piano without music. He loved violin music especially. He enjoyed doing service for people. He helped with many storm clean ups in Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Santa Clara Heights Stake Center, 1705 Desert Dawn Dr., Santa Clara, UT. Viewings will be Thursday, May 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT and on Friday, May 17 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel, prior to services. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, UT.
