THOMAS — If you were one of the fans in attendance at Snake River High School Friday night and were hoping to see an offensive show, you went home disappointed.
Instead fans were witness to another strong defensive effort from the Lady Panthers as the earned a hard fought 30-25 win over fifth district rival Marsh Valley.
"I will tell you what we lead from start to finish and our defense never sagged," Snake River head coach Rich Dunn said. "We rebounded, we did not let their size inside get to us. I mean Brylie Bair got in foul trouble and Maegan Peace, Alyssa Crumley and Ivy Goff did one heck of a job inside and that really is the story tonight."
Bair got into foul trouble early in the first quarter and Peace was first off the bench to help get the Panthers offense back on track.
Peace only scored four points, but both of her baskets came at critical points in the first half.
The Lady Panthers tough defense allowed the Eagles just one second quarter point and that came with 1:26 left in the half.
Snake River led 15-7 at halftime.
The Panthers lead ballooned to nine at the end of the third quarter. It was extended to 12 after Makena Shelley hit a three to start the fourth quarter.
"We got everything we though we would from Max Shelley and Scout Baldwin, they played their butts off," Dunn said. "Tonight's wild card was Brylie getting into to foul trouble and Maegan Peace coming in and playing most of the first three quarter. Maegan, Alyssa and Ivy did one heck of a job tonight."
Shelley led the Panthers with nine points, Baldwin added 6.
Snake River (8-8, 2-1 3A District 5) hosts American Falls on Friday.
