Dorothy L. Martin, 99, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, Aug, 9, 2013 at Bingham Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy was born March 6, 1914 in Riverside to Ole William Peterson and Effie May Goold.Â Dorothy attended school in Riverside, then transferred to Blackfoot when the family home burned down and forced the family to relocate.Â She graduated from Blackfoot High School.
She was raised in the Riverside area and moved to McCammon in 1945; to Santa Maria, Calif. in 1960 and returned to Blackfoot in 1965 and lived there ever since.
On Nov. 12, 1932Â Dorothy married Ennis Martin in Logan, Utah.Â Their marriage was later solemnized on Aug.28, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a visiting teacher and enjoyed playing the piano.
Dorothy worked as an agent for the Blackfoot Greyhound Bus Depot for over 20 years.Â In her free time she enjoyed camping, family, motorcycle trips and working in her flower garden.Â She regularly played the piano for the Senior Center, nursing home and Veterans Hospital.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Jerry (Martha) Martin of Jerome; Von (Joy) Martin, Bill (Sharon) Martin, Lyle (Karen) Martin and Steve Martin, all of Blackfoot; brother, DeLynn (Arlene) Peterson of Pocatello; 29 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ennis; son, Lee; daughters-in-law, Alice and Debbie; brothers, Owen, Cliff and Mel Peterson; sister, Mildred Bedian; and grandson, Ryan Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 at Riverside 3rd Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Craig Watkins conducting.Â The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.Â Interment will follow at the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Â
