The Blackfoot Elks are raffling a "Herby Derby" Demolition car and giving it away at the Demolition Derby 'Kick-off' Party at the Elks Lodge on Sept. 6. The annual "Herby Derby" raffle and the ever popular Demolition Derby held each year at the Eastern Idaho State Fair, are sponsored by the Elks each year to raise money for local youth organizations.
Misty Myler, an Elks member and secretary for the Demolition Derby, said that this is about the fourth year the Elks have raffled off a "Herby Derby" car and that the raffle and kickoff party have become a highly anticipated event for the derby drivers, crew members and the community.
This year's Herby Derby car was donated by Ron Mangum of Economy Truck & Auto. It was built and decaled by Renny Hill of Homeland Auto.
"Whoever wins the car gets to drive it in the "Herby Derby" round of the demolition derby. The car has never gotten less than the third place the last few years," she said. "Last year's Herby Derby winner was Amber Parris and she came in second place."
Raffle tickets for the Herby Derby car are $5 and can be purchased at the Blackfoot Elks Lodge or at Bower's Collision. The Herby Derby car will be on display at Bower's Collision until the day of the giveaway. Tickets can be purchased at the Elks Lodge right up until the car is given away at 7 p.m. at the Demolition Derby Kick-Off Party on Sept. 6.
Myler said everyone is invited to come and celebrate at the Demolition Derby "Kick-off" party. There will be dinner, drinks, entertainment and prizes.
"The kickoff party is a big event. It's to celebrate the derby, the drivers, the pit crew...the whole derby crew and their families. It takes hundreds of man-hours to put on the derby each year and we couldn't do it without the help of the entire derby crew," Myler said.
Last year the Elks was able to donate about $37,000 to over 25 local youth organizations such as Boy/Girl Scouts, Bingham County's Youth Coalition, Hoop Shoots, 4-H and High School Rodeo through money raised from the raffle and the derby. This year's goal is $40,000.
The Demolition Derby at this year's EISF will be held in grand stand area on Saturday, Sept 7, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for children. For a complete fair schedule go to www.funatthefair.com or call 785-2480.
