Erma Gay Gunnell Higgins, 61, of Idaho Falls, passed away Oct, 27, 2011 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
Erma Gay was born Sept.19, 1950 in Preston to Parley Mitton Gunnell and Doris Wilcox Hobbs Gunnell. She grew up and attended schools in the Linrose and Burley areas and graduated from Burley High School. She continued her education at Ricks College in Rexburg and at BYU in Provo, Utah.
On March 26, 1976, she married Douglas Eugene Higgins in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. Together they raised two children.
Erma Gay was a mother and homemaker. She was the manager of Titles and Insurance at East Idaho Credit Union.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in almost every ward calling there is at one time or another. One of her favorite callings was Relief Society advisor at BYU - Idaho.
Erma Gayâ€™s favorite hobby was shopping. She liked gardening â€“ especially raising tomatoes and she enjoyed the performing arts: plays, dancing, and music. She loved raising her children and spoiling her grandchildren.
Erma Gay loved her Heavenly Father and strove every day to please Him. She was the greatest wife, mother, and grandmother that a family could ever have.
Erma Gay is survived by her husband Douglas of Idaho Falls; daughter, Christa Gay (Travis)Sargent of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, James Douglas (Kaitlyn)Higgins of Woods Cross, Utah; brothers, Parley Terrell (Donna)Gunnell of Draper, Utah; Gary Wayne (Dianne) Gunnell of Pocatello; John Clair (Geraldine)Gunnell of Weston; Morus Odell (Dana)Gunnell of Burley; Brent Udell Gunnell of West Valley City, Utah; Todd Clark Gunnell of San Diego, Calif.; and six grandchildren, with one more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents..
Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS Skyline Ward (2345 W. 17th Street)with Bishop Kirk Larsen officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home (273 North Ridge Avenue) and 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
