Fairchild fantastic in 4-0 shutout of Trojans

Dallan Fairchild throws a strike during Blackfoot's 4-0 home win over Rigby on Friday afternoon.

BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Broncos remained undefeated in conference play on Friday afternoon as they rode the left arm of Dallan Fairchild to a 4-0 home win over Rigby.
Fairchild was in a word, magnificent as he worked a complete game 2 hit shutout. Fairchild was efficient on the bump, throwing just 90 pitches in his 7 innings of work as he sat down 12 Rigby hitters via the strike out.

"You gotta give it to Dallan today. He came out focused. He was hungry and he wanted to be on the bump and when he got the chance he threw a heck of a ball game today," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "We talked about it after the game with the team that they each needed to thank Dallan for that game because we didn't come focused and ready to play today. Dallan did though and he kept the Rigby bats at bay and I just can't say enough about his performance."
In five different innings Fairchild put down the Trojans in order and in the second and fifth innings, Fairchild struck out the side.
Offensively the Broncos gave Fairchild a lead that was never threatened with a pair of runs in each of the first two innings of play.
Zach Later ignited the first inning rally with ringing double and then came racing home ahead of an RBI single by Dylan Mansanarez. Colby Pearson, who reached on a fielders choice came home with the second run of the inning as big brother Cole Mansanarez came through with a two out RBI single.
In the second inning, Brady Trappett and Zach Later each drove in runs with RBI singles as Russel Osborn and Justin Mathie came homeward for the 4-0 lead.
That was all of the scoring on the day though as Rigby were able to hold the Blackfoot bats to just 2 more hits over the next four innings of play.
"Offensively and in the dug out we were just a little lackadaisical today but you have to hand it Rigby, It was a conference game and they came at us with everything that they had," Coach Dahle said. "They switched pitchers about every two innings and never gave us a chance to really dig in against them. We never really got a good chance to read the pitcher and they gave us a good ball game."
With the win Blackfoot improves to 10-4 on the season and more importantly 6-0 in conference play.
"It wasn't the prettiest of wins for us, maybe a little soft on the offensive side of the ball, but to get a conference win is big no matter how you do it," coach Dahle said. "Starting 6-0 has just go this team sitting with a lot of confidence. The kids believe that they can beat anybody and they can."
Blackfoot will return home on Tuesday when they host 5A Hillcrest for a 4:30 ballgame.
