Fern Moore Hammond, 97, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the home of her son, Boyd Hammond.Â She was under the care of her granddaughter, Pamala Hammond, and the Blackfoot Home Health and Hospice.
Fern was born May 3, 1915 in Blackfoot to Phillip Richard Moore and Myrtle Lutz Moore.Â Fern was the eighth child in a family of 11 children.Â She attended Blackfoot High School and graduated on May 17, 1934.
Fern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â She served as a librarian at the Thomas Church for many years.
On Nov. 5, 1937, Fern married Homer Edward Hammond in Pocatello.Â They were sealed in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on May 27, 1938.Â
Fern worked at Hoffmanâ€™s Safewayand as a mail carrier for many years.Â Her main career was being a wife, mother and homemaker.Â Fern was a fantastic cook, specializing in raisin-filled cookies, doughnuts, chocolate cake, banana creme pie, almond Rocha, fudge, peanut brittle, homemade bread and luscious rolls.Â Many people have sampled her great cooking.Â She passed this trait onto her grandchildren by teaching them how to cook.Â Even at the age of 96, she could still make a tender roast and fabulous potato salad.Â Fern enjoyed fishing and camping with her husband, friends and family.
She is survived by two sons, Richard C. (DeAnn) Hammond of Miramar, Florida and Boyd H. (Ruby) Hammond of Blackfoot; grandchildren: Chris (Tammy), Jennifer (Robert), Tim (Megan), Philip, Andrea (Ray), Jonathan (Laura), Michael, LoriJo (Joseph), Winona (Denis), Stephen (Mary), James (Trisha), Pamala, Randi (Ben) and Kent (Tonya); great-grandchildren: Tori Rae, Chase, Kyley Ann, Skyler Jane, Kelsey, Marissa, Lauren, Allison, Anthony, Kian, Niko, Mateo, Austin, Briton, Jaycee and Victoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Hammond, her parents, Phillip and Myrtle Moore, and siblings, Dick Moore, Goldie Anderson, Gene Moore, Bert Moore, Rose Johnson, Blanche Mangum, Ray Moore, Frank Moore, Velma Hammond, and Georgia Moore, grand daughter, Beverlee, and great-grandson, Kyler.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012, at the Thomas 6th Ward LDS Chapel in Thomas.Â The family will meet with friends and family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.Â Friday, June 22, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot and again for one hour prior to services at the church.Â Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
