Firth romps over West Jefferson

September 14, 2012

Bailey Nelson blasts a shot against West Jefferson at Firth High School on Thursday evening.

FIRTH - The Firth Cougars opened their conference slate on Thursday evening as they welcomed the West Jefferson Panthers to town for what proved to be a quick night of volleyball.
On the bright side for West Jefferson they were able to make the return trip back to Terreton with a little sunlight remaining as Firth crushed the Panthers 25-6, 25-15 and 25-6 in a little under an hour of game time.
"West Jefferson are a really young team so this is a rebuilding year for them," Firth head coach Carla Reeves said. "We've been there before so I know what they're going through."

Firth dominated the evening in large part due to their stellar night at the service line. Led by Taylor Nelson's six ace performance the Cougars placed the Panthers behind the eight ball before most points ever really got started.
"We didn't serve very well at Skyline and I told them that they needed to start serving to win and tonight they went after them strong," Coach Reeves said. "Taylor has a nice little float serve that gave West Jefferson some trouble."
Once a rally did get started it inevitably ended with a big shot by the Cougars who were led by Bailey Nelson and her 10 kill evening. Kayla Jensen just missed double-digits on the night with 9 kills in the winning effort. Dishing out all the assists was the talented Jordyn Park with 24 dimes.
"We didn't play as well as we should have at Sugar so I worked them pretty hard in practice yesterday," Coach Reeves said. "I told them that I wasn't going to allow this great group of athletes not meet their potential and tonight I was pleased with how we executed."
Firth will be back in action next Wednesday when they host Salmon.
