Full Throttle Rodeo
POCATELLO — On a cold and rainy evening the fourth district high school rodeo resumed their 2013 season as they took to the indoor arena at the Bannock County Fairgrounds for rodeo three of the 12 rodeo season.
In the barrel racing it was all Timmi "Full Throttle" Hutchings as the Snake River freshman blistered the course with a winning time of 15.748. Hutchings was the only sub sixteen second ride of the evening as Cassidey Quinn and Kassidy Duffin came in second and third with times of 16.143 and 16.217.
After the barrel racing, the action shifted to the south end of the arena and with all eyes on the bucking chutes, it was another Snake River athlete who shone as soon to be CSI cowboy Skylerr Valentine scored a 57 to with the bareback event. Valentine's horse showed some stage fright, stalling in the gate, but once out it was enough to distance Valentine from second place finisher Rylie Clemens of Firth who scored a 50.
Shelley senior Chad Funk was the lone entry in the saddle bronc event and despite a valiant effort, the horse won this round as Funk tasted the arena floor just ahead of the 8 second buzzer.
The pole benders then entered the arena and once again it was that "Full Throttle" girl who stood above the rest. Hutchings followed up her barrel racing win with a 20.882 second run in the pole bending for her second win of the night. Hailey Driscoll was second at 21.725 while Kristen Olsen came in third at 21.978.
Next up was the tie down roping and the break away roping. Loose calves and a scrambled line up because of that ensued which slowed the overall pace of the rodeo down somewhat.
Despite that, Snake River was able to notch yet another win in the tie down roping as Haizer Simper stopped the clock on his run at 13.90 for the top spot on the evening. Firth's Rylie Clemens was second at 14.46 and Jacob Partner was the third place finisher at 16.65.
Lexie Lehman made Bingham County 5 for 5 on the evening with a 4.08 second run in the breakaway roping to win that event. Jessica Partner was second at 5.05 and Timmi Hutchings continued her stellar evening with a third place finish of 13.10.
Due to time constraints, the rest of the rodeo results were not available at press time.
The rodeo will continue today at 11 a.m. as the fourth district completes the Pocatello portion of the season. The rodeo will shift to American Falls over the next two weekends before wrapping up the year at Blackfoot.
