Garth Phelps, 79 of Blackfoot, passed away peacefully with his family around him Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocataello following a shortÂ illness.
He was born June 11, 1932 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the son of Roland and Eldora Gardener Phelps.
He has lived in various places including Blackfoot, Arco, Pocatello, Bullhead City, AZ and Mackay.Â He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1951.
He was married to Gloria Ferri on November 18, 1952, in Elko Nevada.
He was a past member of the Elks Club and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.Â He had worked as sales manager at the Blackfoot Creamery (Velvet Foods) for 20 years along with being an independent Business owner of American Oil Company, Huskey Convenience Store and Bargain Barn Grocery in Arco, Idaho.
After retiring in 1987 he and Gloria enjoyed RVing down south in the Bullhead City area before moving back to Blackfoot to be near his kids.
He is survived by his wife Gloria of Blackfoot, son Jeff Phelps of Blackfoot, daughters Wendy (John) Moore, Boise, Linda (Randy) Little, Blackfoot, and Laurie (Wally) Watkins, Blackfoot, one sister Norene (Don) Fredricksen of Pocatello, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave, Blackfoot.Â The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and again on Thursday for an hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the Stewart Hoover Post #23.
In lieu of flowers family suggest memorials to the American Cancer Society.
