George Robert Ney, 79, of Blackfoot passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at his home.
George was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Decatur, Ill., to Carl Winter Ney and Pearl Susan Dunkel. He was raised and educated in Decatur.
George served in Japan during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy, his ship, the USS Preston, went throughout the world during his service. After serving in the Navy, he lived in Southern California from 1958 to 1972, until he relocated to Blackfoot in 1972. He has lived here ever since.
On Dec. 17, 1952, George married Patty Amy Norris in Decatur, Ill. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Utah LDS Temple.
George worked as a maintenance mechanic retiring from INL in 1995. He also worked for Simplot, Standard Oil of Southern California and Wabash Railroad in Decatur, Ill. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, hunting, sports...especially softball, and working around his home and yard.
George is survived by his wife Patty of Blackfoot; daughter, Darby Herrick of Brigham City, Utah; and brother Carroll (Fayrene) Ney of Milwaukee, Wisc.
George was preceded in death by his son, Doug; his parents; and sisters, Rosalie, Mary and Eloise.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the Rose LDS Chapel. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Stewart Hoover Post #23 of the American Legion.
