Greg 'Slim' Smith, 63
Greg “Slim” Smith, 63, passed away Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
Slim came into this world on Aug. 2, 1950, born to Grant G. Smith and Charlotte Britt Smith. He was born in Helena, Montana and spent his early childhood years in Helena and Bozeman, Montana before his mom and step-dad located to Blackfoot in 1963. Slim quickly made Blackfoot his own, making friends along the way. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1968 and has lived in Blackfoot since then.
Slim graduated from ISU Vo-Tech in 1970 with a degree in Electrical Instrumentation. After graduation he started his career with Westinghouse in Pocatello. In 1976 he started S & G Electric Motor Repair with two partners and later became the sole owner. Slim excelled in his profession and has served as the Chapter President of EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association). As a longstanding member of EASA, his knowledge about the business was always recognized by the younger members.
In 1977 he married Rhonda L. Cordon. Slim and Rhonda were blessed with two beautiful children, Tyler G. and Hailey Michelle. Slim’s kids were the light of his life and he provided them with constant love and support.
Slim had a passion for the outdoors; he enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling in his earlier years. His most anticipated pastime was his annual steelhead fishing trip to China Bar on the Salmon River, this past October marked the 35th anniversary of this trip – he never missed one. In recent years, he especially enjoyed the fishing trips to Hells Canyon and had made several trips there each year since his good friend, Rene Jensen, moved to Lewiston. Slim also enjoyed spending time in Island Park and Challis, Idaho. He was great company and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. Slim was a man of few words – and great wisdom and humor.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1416. Slim was a patriot, who appreciated the men and women who served our country and was a strong supporter of veterans. Slim was very generous and enjoyed giving back to the community, especially to worthwhile activities for the youth.
He is survived by loving friend, Sheri Jorgensen, who shared his life for 20 years; son, Tyler G. Smith of Bozeman, Montana and daughter, Hailey Michelle Smith of Boise; Sheri’s children, Jacob Jorgensen of Cross Junction, Va.; and AdriAnn (Matt) Rasmussen of Meridian; sister, Sandra Knapp and her husband Mike and nephew, Joe Knapp, of Bozeman, Montana and grandchildren, Cordon Smith, Brooks, Brody, and Mikki Rasmussen.
