Gwenevier ‘Gwen’ LuDean Fisher, 59
Gwenevier “Gwen” LuDean Fisher, 59, of Fort Hall passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011. at the Southwest Idaho Advanced Care Hospital in Boise surrounded by her family.
She was born May 13, 1952, to Edison Dixey, Sr. and Adeline “Eldean” George in Blackfoot.
Gwen attended elementary and junior high school in Blackfoot and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1970. She later attended Idaho State University, taking secretarial classes.
On Nov. 5, 1982, Gwen married the love of her life, Glenn D. Fisher.
Gwen was actively involved in Girl Scouts for 19 years and loved being involved with the American Indian Scouting Association. She had been involved with AISA for the past nine years. Gwen had served as the chairperson and had been a board member for several years with AISA.
Gwen’s first job was as a candy striper at Bingham Memorial Hospital. She then went on to work the Fort Hall Elementary and Sho-Ban School. She was also involved with the Indian Education Board in District 55. Throughout her adult life she was always involved in the education system.Gwen instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of education.
Gwen is survived by her husband, Glenn of Fort Hall; daughters, Wendy Eagle of Gibson, Colista (Kidd) Farmer of Pocatello, Ardella (Shawn) Tendoy and Kari (Nigel) Fisher of Gibson; step-daughter, Glenda Fisher of Warm Springs, Ore.; brothers, Edison Darrell (Delea) Dixey Jr., and Kelly McConnell of Fort Hall; sisters, Evelyn Surdam of Gibson, Paulette (Jordan) Caskey of Nampa, Audrey (Ruben) Siewiyumptewy of Salt Lake City, Utah; Angie (Clifford) Buckskin of Gibson, Anna (Richard) Bowers of Big Cypress, Fla.; Arletta (Videl Stump) Buckskin of Gibson and Francisca Kaka of Fort Hall; grandchildren Lailoni Eagle and Patience Fisher, both of whom she has raised since birth; Makalia Eagle, Tyler Eagle, Ueliyas Redwoman, Alicia Farmer, Valencia Fisher, Cohl Redwoman, Nikeea Farmer, Cruz, Fisher, Hernan, Didier and Rosalee Tendoy and Louie Fisher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents R.W. and Daisey Broncho Dixey; maternal grandparents Harold and Lucy Shay George; brothers, Everett and Mike McConnell, Wesley and Wayne Dixey, and step-father Quinton McConnell.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Gwen will then be taken to her home on Hwy 91 (1/8th mile south of Ferry Butte Road) at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, until her traditional Native American burial at noon on Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Gibson Cemetery.
