The greatest love story ever felt by one family ended April 22, 2014 when Harold Van Sickle was reunited with his beautiful wife Florien.
Harold was born on June 21, 1930 in Jefferson, Iowa, to Ira Van Sickle and Myrtle Schilmann Van Sickle.
Harold joined the Navy at the age of 20. He served both foreign and domestic. This honorable sailor stole the heart of Florien Misch and made her his bride June 14, 1952.Â
As their love grew so did their family. Their little farm house welcomed three children; Nicholas Ira, Cynthia Jane and David Richard. Eventually the farmer and his bride moved their family to California to sell John Deere tractors and eventually the couple would follow their daughter to Idaho. The couple was inseparable in life and even after Florien’s death in 2010, Harold still kissed her picture and professed his love to her nightly.Â
With each breath he told us how she was the greatest thing that ever happened to him and he would be reunited with her soon. Days before his passing he began celebrating their reunion and telling us he would soon be dancing with his wife in heaven.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Kendrick; son, David Van Sickle; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death his beautiful bride, Florien; his son, Nicholas Van Sickle; his parents, Ira and Myrtle Van Sickle; brothers, Junior Van Sickle and Jack Van Sickle; and sister, Betta Rich.
Harold and Florien would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary this Saturday. We will celebrate the reunion of their souls with a graveside and military services, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Grove City Cemetery, 1 Willow Drive in Blackfoot. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
