Hot hitting Knights pound Broncos

BLACKFOOT — A slow offensive start doomed the Blackfoot Bronco baseball squads chance at a win on Tuesday afternoon as the visiting Knights of Hillcrest built a commanding 9-1 lead after three innings of play and then played keep away, handing the Broncos a disappointing 18-6 defeat.
"We started the game kind of tentative and allowed them to get ahead and it's always tough to try and battle back when your behind," Blackfoot head coach Kenny Dahle said. "Hillcrest is a good team and Motes threw well but they are definitely beatable, I don't think that they are 12 runs better than us."
On the day Hillcrest was able to pound out 20-hits against Bronco pitching, including a pair of home runs, one of which was a grand slam in the top of the third inning.
"They were a bit of a buzz saw, they really hit the ball well and then we gave them some which hurt," coach Dahle said. "We had that one inning when we booted the ball around a little which led to 6 or 7 runs for them and that certainly doesn't help the team moral any."
Blackfoot was not without good play however as they were able to strike back in the later innings with 6 runs of their own. Russel Osbourn was a big portion of the offense for the Broncos, finishing the day 2 for 3 with a 3-RBI triple in the home half of the fifth inning.
"I was real happy with our at bats in the last three innings," coach Dahle said. "I think if we come out tomorrow like we finished the game today that it will be a totally different ball game. I'm excited for tomorrow and can't wait to see us battle back."
Blackfoot (4-2, 3-2) will look to even the season series with the Knights as they travel to Hillcrest today for a 4:30 game.
