James S. Spalding, 68, of Blackfoot, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home.
James was born Feb. 24, 1944, in Oceanside, Calif., to David Ross and Marjorie Simon Spalding.Â He attended elementary and high school in Circleville, Ohio.Â He attended Ohio University and earned his masterâ€™s degree from the University of Utah.Â He made his home in Blackfoot in 2001.
James served in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970.
On July 20, 1968, he married Donna Lee Dursteler in Cub River, Idaho.Â They later divorced.Â In November 1983 he married Rebecca Jodene Lewis;she preceded him in death on May 31, 2010.
James was a professional geologist. He worked for Morrison-Knudsen, FMC and Jacobs Engineering.Â In 1998 he started his own business as a consultant.Â Jim traveled the world throughout his career providing a professionalism and presence second to none, and was revered in his field and known worldwide for his unique abilities to adapt to all environments.
Jimâ€™s hobbies changed with age. During his youth he enjoyed Scouting and swimming; in his later years he enjoyed hunting, camping, and traveling the world with his soulmate and wife, Rebecca.
James is survived by his children: Deborah (Guy) Stegman, Merek Tal Spalding, Tonya Christine Spalding (James Graham), James David (Sharon) Spalding, Thomas Jon Jacobs, Margie Mueller; his father, David Ross Spalding; sister, Suzane Williams, both of Circleville, Ohio; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Spalding; his mother Marjorie Spalding; and his brother, Jeffrey Ross Spalding.
In accordance with James wishes cremation was under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home.
A celebration of Jamesâ€™ life will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave.
Family suggest memorials in lieu of flowers to be made to the Stewart Hoover Post #23, Girls State with the Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 753, Blackfoot, Idaho 83221.
