BLACKOOTâ€”Anyone suffering from the late winter doldrums in Southeastern Idaho is bound to perk up by attending the Intermountain Jazz Festival, Saturday at the Blackfoot Performing Arts Center.
The award-winning jazz ensemble- BYU Synthesis- will headline the event with an evening performance at 7:30 p.m., Nine area high school (and middle school) jazz bands will perform throughout the day. Approximately 200 students and their families come for the annual event, equating to over 400 additional people, giving the town an economic boost on Saturday.
BYU Synthesis, hailing from Brigham Young University-Provo, incorporates swing, blues, jazz and Latin styles into their music. Synthesis is known for their original music, plus timeless numbers from legends like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Louis Armstrong.
Last year, Synthesis did a three-week tour in the Rio das Ostras Jazz and Blues Festival, performing for over 50,000 people.
