Joe Virgil Byers, 84, of Blackfoot, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Sunday morning, April 15, 2012, at the Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
Joe was born Sept. 20, 1927 in Idaho Falls to William Lee and Wilma Belle Warrant Byers.
On Sept. 1, 1951 he married the love of his life, Darlene Grace Ellis.Â To this union were born two sons, Cary Zane Byers and Kelly Joe Byers.Â After more than 49 years of marriage, his beloved wife died.Â
Â Â He retired July 31, 1992 from the Union Pacific Railroad after 28 years of service.Â
Also preceding him in death were his sister, Laura Lee Gibby and her husband, Paul Gibby; and a stillborn grandson, Christopher.
He is survived by his sons, Cary (Rebecca) Byers of Omaha, Neb., and Kelly Byers of Blackfoot; granddaughter, Christina Nichole Byers of Omaha, Neb.; stepson, Daren Bruce (Marcie) Upchurch of Coeur dâ€™Alene; step-grandson, Michael Daren (NaShay) Upchurch of Kennewick, Wash.; and a step-great-grandson, Landon Michael Upchurch of Kennewick, Wash..
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Blackfoot Southern Baptist Church, 689 South Fisher Street in Blackfoot, with Pastor Jeff Winters conducting.Â A viewing will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot and again for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday morning.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.Â
