John 'Alan' DeGiulio, 73

John “Alan”  DeGiulio, 73, of Sterling passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
He was born May 30, 1938 in Springfield, the son of Santo and Mabel Elizabeth Line DeGiulio.
Alan grew up and lived his entire life in the Sterling area, attending schools in Grandview, Springfield and he graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1956.  He served our country in the Air Force at Edwards Air Forced Base in California. While in the service he tracked the first unmanned Soviet satellite, “Sputnik.”  During his time in the Air Force he met his wife,  Lorene “Lori” Day in Beatty, Nev., and married in Ely, Nev., June 20, 1959.
Alan was a member of the Roman Catholic Church as well as the Moose Lodge organization in Grandview.  He was a board member of the Aberdeen Springfield Canal Co. for many years, and was on the Idaho Dept. of Water Resources Committee of Nine up until the time of his death.
Alan was a hardworking man who farmed and ranched his entire life.  He was also president and manager of the Idaho Grimm Growers in Blackfoot.  He was very successful in his endeavors.
He enjoyed working, shooting dice, tinkering in his shop and keeping things tidy.  He loved his grandchildren like no other.  They were the light of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene “Lori,” daughter Wendy & Lynn Nugent, both of Sterling; his son, Lane & Paula DeGiulio of Boise; his grandchildren, Ricky & Sara Havlicak, Chelsy & Turan Harten, and Alexandria and Olivia DeGiulio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothersNeil and Terry DeGiulio.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. Blackfoot, with interment to follow at the Springfield Cemetery.  The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Dinner services shall be provided at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pingree, following the interment.
