John Wayne Chapman, 62

April 1, 2011

John Wayne Chapman, 62, of Idaho Falls died Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at his home from complications of diabetes.
John was born May 19, 1948, in Pocatello to LaWayne Chapman and Phyllis Marley Chapman. He grew up in Idaho Falls and graduated in 1966 from Idaho Falls High School.
On Aug. 16, 1993, he married Kay Munk in Idaho Falls.
John was a traveling salesman and a guitar inspector for Chesbro Music. He played rhythm guitar for Rocky Mountain Roll and the Spud Brothers. He loved his Z28 Camero car and the girls looking at him as he drove down the street. He also worked for Med Quest doing medical transcriptions. In 1981, his father gave him a kidney which added 30 years to his life. During the recuperation, John lost his sight. He used to joke about his kidney being older than him and he would ask for kidney pie on the anniversary of the transplant.
He loved sending and receiving jokes which his talking computer would relate. John loved music, his dogs (Angus, Luke and Bismark), bird watching with his wife, Kay, the love of his life, and riding in the VW convertible he inherited from his friend, Woody.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Munk Chapman of Idaho Falls; siblings: Kay (Larry) Bacon of Florence, Ore.; Brian (Jeanne) Chapman of Rexburg; Adrian (Tina) Chapman of Idaho Falls; children: Lisa (Alan, deceased) Curless of Bountiful, Utah; Jill (Clay) Miller of Marrietta, Ga.; brothers-in-law: Kris (Mardean) Munk of Idaho Falls and Mike (Maryann) Munk of Wapauca, Wisc.; grandchildren: Conner, Andrea, Jessica, and Jamie Curless all of Bountiful, Utah; Hayden and Henry Miller of Marrietta, Ga., and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Evan Chapman, and his mother-in-law, Margaret Skelton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls. The family will visit with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the mortuary prior to the services.
