Kenneth Dixey, 80

POCATELLO — Kenneth “Woosie” Dixey, 80 of Blackfoot passed on May 9, 2011, at Portneuf Rehabilitation Center in Pocatello with his family next to him at his bedside after complication from sudden illness.  
Kenneth was born on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation Aug. 3, 1930, to Lawrence Dixey and Mae Pocatello. He was raised just outside of the Blackfoot city limits most of his life. He attended school  in Blackfoot up until the eighth grade. 
On April 15, 1958, he married Eleanor Jim in Elko, Nev. Kenneth served in the Navy as a deckhand on the USS L. Thomas and re-enlisted in the Army, earning his Parachute Badge. He was honorably discharged from both. 
Kenneth was employed at various jobs until he retired from JR Simplot Gay Mines on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. 
He enjoyed his retirement playing at the Fort Hall Casino.  He also enjoyed watching Clint Eastwood movies, watching rodeos, watching his favorite basketball team, the LA Lakers, and attending the local Shoshone-Bannock Festival.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Eleanor of Blackfoot; and daughter, Ramona Medicine Horse (Brett Hayball) of Blackfoot. He has two grandchildren, Tamara “Rosi” Medicine Horse and Travis Dean Medicine Horse, and one great-grand daughter Love Qunic’ Medicine Horse, all of Blackfoot.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawerence Dixey and Mae Pocatello; sister, Thelma Dixey Townsend and Clifford Dixey. He is a direct descendent of Chief Pocatello.
Traditional visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the Kenneth Dixey residence off Highway 91 just south of Blackfoot. A prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot. Traditional burial services will be held at 2 p.m. on  Thursday, May 12, 2011, in the Gibson Cemetery where final military rites will be presented by the Fort Hall and Blackfoot Veteran Honor Guard.
