Kenneth L. Young, a 74-year-old Blackfoot resident, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, in Blackfoot, following an illness.
He was born May 16, 1936, in Idaho Falls, the fourth child and first son of Lloyd W. and Verna Young.
He grew up on a farm in the Thomas-Pingree area West of Blackfoot and was schooled in the Snake River School District. His higher education included a bachelor's degree from Utah State University, a master's degree from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D from Southern Illinois University.
He taught at Brigham Young University, Southern Illinois University and Eastern New Mexico University. He then returned to Idaho and spent 17 years in the insurance business.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in which he held several positions over the years. From 1956 to 1958 he served as a missionary for the church in England and Scotland.
He was married to Evelyn Daw on Sept. 5, 1968, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and they had three beautiful children
He loved Scouting and earned his Eagle Scout Award. He enjoyed his friends, music, fly fishing and tying, dancing, sports, traveling but especially cherished his family and the time spent with them.
Survivors include his children, Kendra (Mathew) Ross of Idaho Falls, Kevin (Julianne) Young of Groveland and Kimberly (Michael) Miner of Bountiful, Utah; 13 grandchildren; his brother Richard (Becky) Young of Syracuse, Utah; and sister Geri Fox of Afton, Wyo.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Rose LDS Church with Bishop Dale Cunningham conducting.
The family will meet with friends at the church from 9- 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park in Idaho Falls at 2:30 p.m. under the direction of the Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
