Kent George Gentry, 56, of Blackfoot passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Kent was born on April 8, 1955, in Blackfoot and was raised by his mother Bonnie and stepfather Frank Gentry.
He attended grade school in the Blackfoot School District and high school in Wendover and Battle Mountain, Nev. He earned his GED through Idaho State University and became certified as an automotive technician through the ISU College of Technology. Throughout his life, Kent lived in Blackfoot, Idaho Falls and Rigby; Battle Mountain and Wendover, Nev.; and St. George, Utah, and Farmington, New Mexico.
Kent worked as a truck driver, working both local and long haul routes. He worked for Lambert Produce and Black Diamond Paving, as well as Yellowstone Truck Stop and Truckers International Truck Stop. While he drove truck “to pay the bills” he much preferred working as a backyard mechanic. Through the years he worked on many different vehicles, trucks, heavy farm equipment, classic cars and motorcycles. He could fix just about anything and was a true “MacGyver.”
He enjoyed the normal things of life; camping, fishing, and spending time with friends and family, but his greatest joy was found riding his Harley. Kent was a friend to many and will be missed by all.
Kent is survived by his mother, Bonnie Gentry of Blackfoot; brothers Brad (Nancy) Gentry of Wendover, Nev., Terry Mihelish of Blackfoot and Jeff (Brandy) Gentry of Blackfoot; a sister, Bobbi (John) Rinkus of Blackfoot; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank; a twin brother Brent, and another brother, Scott.
