BLACKFOOT — The Blackfoot Lady Broncos picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon as they blanked the Jerome Lady Tigers 3-0.
Once again the Lady Broncos were aided in their cause by the talented right foot of Cassandra Clarke as the fleet footed junior recorded her second straight hat trick with all three goals in the victory.
"I hate to say it but Cassandra broke another record today by being the first Blackfoot girl to have back-to-back hat tricks," Blackfoot head coach Scott Stufflebeam said.
Clarke scored her first goal in the tenth minute of play as she dribbled through a pair of Jerome defenders before blasting the ball past a diving goal keeper.
Five minutes later, Clarke split the defense and then passed the ball to herself as the goal keeper charged the play leaving the net free for Clarke to tap in the ball for the 2-0 lead.
Clarke put the finishing touches on the three goal game with a solid blast into the corner in the sixty-second minute of play.
With the offense in capable hands the Lady Broncos then turned to their impressive defense which was stifling all afternoon. Goal keeper Madison Leslie barely broke a sweat as the defensive line turned away the Lady Tigers on possession after possession.
"It made a big difference bringing Emma [Steidly] back on the defensive end," Coach Stufflebeam said. "She got the game ball today because she just cleared everything. I also thought that Mattison Chavez was excellent tonight. She was aggressive to the ball all night which wasn't bad considering it was just her second high school game."
WIth the win Blackfoot evened their season record at 1-1 and they will take to the road for their first road contest of the year on Thursday when they travel to Hillcrest to battle with the now 5A Lady Knights.
"I'm very happy with tonight," Coach Stufflebeam said. "The real test will be on Thursday against Hillcrest. I'm happy that they are 5A now and we need to pick up our aggression across the board. Hillcrest will be a good measuring stick for the girls and we'll see how it works out."
The game is scheduled for a 4:30 kick off.
