Lady Broncos pick up key victory

Madison Pilster heads a ball away at Blackfoot High School on Tuesday.

BLACKFOOT — There was a lot riding on the Blackfoot Lady Bronco soccer squads game with Madison on Tuesday afternoon.
A win would all but guarantee a second seed and more importantly a first round bye in the upcoming district tournament.
On top of that was the fact that Blackfoot was celebrating the contributions of 5 seniors and nobody wants to leave the home field as a senior with a loss.
Blackfoot responded like champions on Tuesday, sweeping aside the pressure to perform and a caution to the wind second half effort by the Lady Cats' for a 2-1 victory.
"Four of these seniors have been with me for four years now and the other was here for the past three and they are all key, you'll note that they play the defense and midfield," Blackfoot head coach Scott Stufflebeam said. "I guess I'm going to focus on the rest of the season and not worry on the fact that when I lose these guys I'm really hurting."
Blackfoot came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, playing nearly the entire first half of play in Madison territory.
That pressure paid off for the Lady Broncos as Jess Gutenberger sped in front of the defense for a one-on-one confrontation with the Madison goal keeper that she won with a blast to the back of the net in the 11th minute of play.
In the 25th minute Gutenberger set up a score, firing a shot that went off the goal keepers hands, into the air where offensive running mate Cassandra Clarke finished off the play with a pretty little header and a 2-0 lead.
