Lady Broncos roll over Lady Knights 15-4

May 8, 2012

Makayla Rowsell fires a pitch while short stop Jessica Capson creeps in for the play on Monday.

IDAHO FALLS- The Blackfoot Lady Broncos softball had another big win, when they faced off against the Hillcrest Knights. With the ten run rule in place Blackfoot took the win 15-4.
Two key hitters in the game were both seniors with Miraya Castaneda and Ally Smith. Castaneda started her game with a double, which was shortly followed by a three run dinger. But she wasn’t finished there, she also hit a triple and gained six RBIs for the night. Smith couldn’t let Castaneda have all the fun as she connected with a home run as well.

“A couple of girls had some big hits. Two home runs and other big hits,” Blackfoot head coach Matt Chavez said.“ Even if they didn’t have big hits they were there on the bases. They were there competing.”
Working well together defensively they quickly stopped the Knights after they gained two runs in the first inning and held them to only two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Makayla Rowsell pitched all five innings and only allowed four runs and pitched two strike outs.
“They did an excellent job today. They peaked at the right time and any team is going to have to play hard against us, because these girls are ready to compete,” Chavez said.
A positive atmosphere flowed out of the dug out as the Broncos cheered each other on throughout the game. The Broncos will play again tomorrow at Hillcrest against the Rigby Trojans at five.
“They are happy and vocal. Always cheering on their teammates,” Coach Chavez said. “We are going to work on keeping them positive because when you are positive great things can happen.”
Blackfoot (13-9, 8-4) are back in action today as they lock horns with the Rigby Trojans at Hillcrest High School with first pitch scheduled for 5 P.M.
