RIVERSIDE — The Snake River Lady Panthers got a stellar pitching performance from sophomore hurler Alyssa Delaney and the offense erupted for a 10 hit outing as Snake River downed South Fremont 7-1 on Thursday afternoon.
"We'll take the win, we got some timely hits which was good," Snake River head coach Kay Martin said. "It's not completely freezing cold today so that was nice as well."
Delaney was superb in the circle for Snake River as she worked 7 solid innings of 2 hit softball. Delaney did a great job of changing speeds and location, keeping South Fremont on their front foot for most of the day as she struck out 8 and walked none. South Fremont was able to cash in a lone run in the top of the seventh inning but it was unearned as and error cost the sophomore the shutout.
"Alyssa did a great job today and she should have had a shut out today. If we play like we should, she would have gotten it and it's to bad that she didn't get it because she deserved it," coach Martin said.
At the dish, Snake River was led by Courtney Steinbaugh and Baily Simper who each collected 3 hits on the afternoon with a pair of doubles between them.
Senior third baseman Chelsee Vail also added a double to the mix as she drove in Steinbaugh and Simper with a drive into the gap in left field for a pair of runs in the home half of the fifth inning.
"We had some girls rise to the occasion for us today," coach Martin said. "We either hit the ball well or we didn't hit at all today but we had enough hitters come through for us which was good."
WIth the win Snake River evens their season record at 2-2 and will return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Sugar-Salem for a show down with the always tough Lady Diggers.
