LaMar N. Barrus, 85
LaMar Noble Barrus, 85, of Firth passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 in Firth.
He was born Dec. 10, 1926 to Noble Hunter Barrus and Hazel Delilah Larson in his parents’ home in Rose.
LaMar attended grade school through the eighth grade. He had lived in Pingree, Burley, Basalt, Roberts and has lived in Wapello for the last 21 years. He also spent a lot of time at his cabin in Island Park. He also lived in Warden, Mont.
On June 11, 1952, he married Marilyn Fackrell in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2011.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Sweden and at the Deseret Industries in Blackfoot. While living in Burley, he served as a bishop.
LaMar owned and operated Barrus Well Drilling and Pump Service Co. He delivered newspapers after his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, visiting and telling stories and was an inventor.
He is survived by his children, Guy LaMar (LaDell) Barrus of Basalt; Steven LaMonte Barrus of Mills, Wyo.; Jeffrey Noble (Rebecca) of Firth; David Michael (Tracy) Barrus of Firth; Kanin (Ron) Butler of Shelley and Nanett (Bert) Pincock of Rexburg; brother, Mortier (Jeannie) Barrus of Montana; sisters, Joyce (Jerry) Brown of Blackfoot, Vivian (Charlie) Rossi of Pingree and Sandra Barrus; 23 grandchildren, 46 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn; brothers, Gene and Donald “Bud”; sisters Ruby Green and Noline Barrus, grandson Chip LaMar Butler and great-grandson Pete Smith.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012 at the Wapello LDS Chapel with Bishop Charles Danzie conducting.
The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
