Local woman to conduct diabetes clinic tonight

SHELLEY – A diabetes workshop is from 6:30—7:30 this evening at the North Bingham County District Library, 197 W. Locust St., Shelley. The workshop is free to all.
"We're going to talk about diabetes—what it is, how to prevent it and tips on how to control blood sugar," said Barbara Moulton, a registered dietitian and diabetes educator.
"I've worked with Rocky Mountain Diabetes in Idaho Falls for 13 years," she said. "I love it.
"I love learning about the disease and the different tricks people can do to help themselves," Moulton said.
"Diabetes is different than every other disease because 95 percent of the treatment is on the patient," she said. "The patient pricks his or her finger and works on his or her diet.
"When diagnosed with diabetes, one of the first questions people ask is, 'What can I eat?'
To answer this question and because she loves to cook, Moulton wrote the cookbook, "Just for the Health of It!"
“The book uses ingredients found in everyone’s kitchen," Moulton said.
Each recipe is a Moulton original. Her husband, Darin, and her five kids, ages 6 through 14, and other neighborhood kids were the taste testers.
“Kids are so honest,” she said. “They’re not afraid to tell you they don’t like it.
"I know the recipes are good because they passed my taste testers," said Moulton.
One copy of “Just for the Health of It!” will be raffled off at the Library workshop. The book price is $14 that evening.
The books can be purchased on BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com as well as at Rocky Mountain Diabetes Center at 3910 Washington Parkway in Idaho Falls.
