Lola Herres, 81, of Blackfoot passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Lola was born Feb. 5, 1931, to Justin Ira and Susan Bailey Wixom in Groveland.Â She attended school at Groveland and Blackfoot, she was vice president of her junior high school class.
Lola was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was active in Relief Society and in Young Women.Â She was active in Boy Scouts for over 43 years, making sure the boys had a great time.Â She helped over 22 young men to receive their Eagle awards including her son and two of her grandsons.Â In 2001, she received the Silver Beaver Award.
On April 27, 1951, she married George J. Herres after two months of dating.Â They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 27, 1983.Â They had a great life and were very active together.Â George preceded her in death on May 29, 1990.
She lived in Pocatello, Firth, Blackfoot and settled in Groveland where she grew up.Â Lola was a homemaker and also worked at Albertsonâ€™s, in the spud harvest, sorted potatoes and helped on the family farm in her younger years.Â
Lola enjoyed oil painting, gardening, camping, riding horses, and needlecraft, reading. She canned everything she could from her garden and enjoyed spending time in her gazebo.Â The joy of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lola is survived by her children, Christy Herres and Larry G. (Karen) Herres, both of Blackfoot; sister-in-laws, Marge, Vestle and Virginia Wixom; grandchildren â€” Kimberly (James) Case, Tyson (Kerri) and Brandon Herres; great-grandchildren â€” Sofia, Sarah (Matt), MaKayla, Clayton, Carson and Jake; and two great-great-grandchildren, Killee and Niema.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George J. Herres; grandson, Brian Berg; her parents; nine brothers and spouses, Clyde (Lorraine), Ervin (Hannah), Raymond (Faye), Alvin (Pauline), Lawrence, Emery, Clifford (Vera), Cecil and Darwin Wixom; and two sisters, Hazel (Addie) Tressl and Emarine (Cliff) Bond.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at the Groveland LDS Church, 155 North 380 West in Blackfoot.Â Family will meet with friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.Â Interment will follow at the Groveland Cemetery.Â
