Lori Elizabeth Hammond, 55, of Blackfoot returned to her Father in Heaven on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Portneuf Regional Medical Center in Pocatello surrounded by her family, after a long fight with her health challenges.Â
She was born Sept. 14, 1955, in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, to Dale LaRoy Still and Agnes Marie Bourne Still, the eldest of four children and many foster brothers and sisters.
Lori lived in Blackfoot from 1975 until 1983 when her husband, Clarence, returned to school in Provo for 1 1/2 years, after which they lived in Grand Prairie, Texas; Kent, Wash.; and Roy, Utah. The last 20 years she and her family have lived in the Blackfoot area.
Lori attended schools and graduated from high school at Sundre, Alberta, Canada. She then attended Ricks College where she met her husband.
On July 27, 1974, she was sealed for time and all eternity to Clarence Hammond, the love of her life, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada LDS Temple.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a summer youth mission in the Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Mission in 1972, and as a Blazer Scout teacher, a Relief Society instructor, nursery worker and other Primary callings and as secretary in the Young Women’s organization.Â
Lori worked as a teacher’s aide for children with learning disabilities. She enjoyed floral arranging and more recently enjoyed helping with wedding arrangements.Â
Before her health challenges prevented it, she enjoyed other crafts as well including sewing and crocheting. She also supported local dance and drill teams by sewing costumes and doing hair and makeup. Her concern for her adopted country and feeling of responsibility inspired her to complete requirements for U. S. citizenship in 2004.
She was deeply loved by all those who knew her, especially her family, close friends and neighbors. She kept her sense of humor until the end, and inspired others by her positive attitude in the face of her many challenges. She wanted to thank all those who have been involved in her life and provided service and care over the years and let them know she loved them.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence of Thomas; son, Sean (Amanda) Hammond of Eagle Mountain, Utah ; daughter, Trista (Jake) Werth of Groveland; father, Dale “Cactus” Still of Mountain View, Alberta, Canada; brother Randy (Sandra) Still of Mountain View, Alberta, Canada; sisters, Dixie, (Lloyd) Retzer of Cardston, Alberta, Canada; Leasa (Fraser) Sulz of St. Albert, Alberta, Canada; and four grandchildren, Clara, Shaina, Alena and RosaLin.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Marie “Billie” Bourne Still, grandparents, George and Lucy Bourne and Jim and Alice Still, and dear friend and companion Biscuitt.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011, at the Thomas LDS Church.
The family will meet with friends and relatives from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at email@example.com.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. We love you, Mom.
