Lourie C. Jackson, 96

August 11, 2014

Lourie C. Jackson, 96, of Blackfoot, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Bingham Memorial Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Blackfoot.
She was born November 8, 1917 in Oakley, Idaho to Raymond  and Luella Tracy Curtis.
Lourie was raised and attended school in Oakley, Idaho.  Following graduation she attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was unexpectedly offered a job helping with the bookkeeping at the Chevrolet dealership in Burley, making $60 a month, which she thought seemed like a small fortune.  World War II broke out and she went to work for the Selective Service. It was during this time that she met and fell in love with Harry F. “Red” Jackson.  They were married September 19, 1942 in Boise, Idaho.  They lived in the Moscow-Pullman area for a year and a half before being transferred to Long Beach, California, where “Red” was an instructor pilot.  After the war they moved to Gooding, Idaho, where they leased and operated the Gooding airport for the city of Gooding.  They moved to Blackfoot in 1953 after purchasing the Buick dealership.  “Red” preceded her in death on October 3, 1977.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, beginning her service in Primary and Sunday School playing the organ and continuing as Relief Society and Ward  organist throughout her life.
During her work career, she worked as bookkeeper for car dealerships and the businesses she and Red owned.
Louri always enjoyed a garden and working outdoors.  She spent many hours making needlepoint pictures which  adorned her home and many given as gifts.  She loved the times spent with her sons and family.
Lourie is survived by her sons: Gary (Diane) Jackson, of Nampa, Idaho and Curtis (Janie) Jackson, of Blackfoot.
She was preceded in death by her husband, “Red”, her parents, sisters, Arleane and Merna and brother Raymond.
At her request, not formal services are planned.  Family suggest memorials be made to the Bingham County Humane Society, PO Box 385, Blackfoot, ID 83221.  Family is under the care of Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot.
Condolences may be sent to the family at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
