Lunetta Nelson Kent, 94
Word has been received of the death of Lunetta Nelson Kent of San Jose, California on June 21, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Vicky Clark, at the age of 94. She was born on April 3, 1917 to Neils and Ella Rockwood Nelson. She was raised in Iona and lived in Idaho Falls before moving to California 1949.
Lunetta, also known as Lunette or Nettie, was a talented seamstress and quilt maker. She designed and made clothing for herself and her girls and anyone else who needed something. She sewed new upholstery and covered her sofa and a chair to make them look brand new. There wasn't anything she wouldn't try and she was usually successful at whatever it was. She kept an immaculate house and she had a special talent for growing beautiful flowers which was evidenced by her lovely yard and array of African Violets inside her home. She worked as a waitress at the Rogers Hotel in Idaho Falls and later at Ricky's Hyatt House in Palo Alto, California and later as a hairdresser. She possessed a great sense of humor and a quick wit and would often sit down and write a short poem about something that just happened. She also took great pride in being the champion Rummikub player among her family and friends.
Lunette will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews as someone who was always there when they needed her. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren, Krista and Scott Campbell, Wade and Nicholas McBride, and Chelsea Clark Denny, Hunter, Collin and Keaton Clark and six great grandchildren. Her home often served as a safe haven for someone in need. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in different callings, including 10 years as Young Womens President.
She had three daughters, Janean Campbell (deceased) of Sacramento, Ca., Marsha McBride of Blackfoot and Vicky (Dale) Clark of San Jose, Ca. She is survived by her daughters Marsha and Vicky as well as sisters, Carol (Wayne) Schneider of Idaho Falls and Laurine Jensen of Sunnydale, Ca. and numerous grandchildren. Her sisters Ella (Mack) Pattee, Leah Nelson, and a brother, Ira Barr Nelson, preceded her in death along with her parents.
In keeping with her wishes she was cremated. A celebration of life will be held in Morgan Hill, California on July 16, 2011 at the home of her great niece, Tracy Harthun. Burial in the family plot at the Iona Cemetery will take place at a later date.
