Lydia Perkes, 88

Lydia Perkes, 88, of Blackfoot, passed away August 10, 2014, at The Willows.
She was born October 1, 1925 in Blackfoot, Idaho the daughter of Byron Jackman and Mildred Samuelson.
Lydia attended school in Blackfoot and Moreland. She married Arthur Perkes on June 11, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She served in various callings during her lifetime and served a mission with her husband, Arthur, in the Washington DC Mission from 1982-1983.
Lydia worked all of her life either on the farm, as a waitress and cook, a cashier at Kesler's and a custodian at the Rose LDS Church for 15 years.
She enjoyed working with her hands. Her talents included knitting, crocheting, tatting, painting, ceramics and making chocolates every Christmas with her sisters. She was a fan of softball, baseball and football her entire life. Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren play sports and participate in school programs and musicals.
She loved music and often sang at various gatherings and funerals with her sisters and nieces. Lydia and Aurthur spent many Saturday nights dancing with friends and neighbors in the community. They also were members of a monthly dinner group that lasted over 50 years.
She is survived by her sons, Barry (Pam) Perkes of Blackfoot, Larry Perkes of Idaho Falls, Kreigh (Peggy) Perkes of Blackfoot, Carroll (Gloria) of Idaho Falls, daughter, Sheila (Mike) VanOrden, of Pingree, brothers, Victor Martin Jackman, Rick Jackman; three sisters, Jerry Morgan, Deawn Herbst, Ordis Herbst; 21 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Arthur; son, Dyle, and two brother, Don and Kenneth.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 11:00am at the Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. The family will meet with friends the night prior, Tuesday, August 12, at the Hawker Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00pm and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery.
The family expresses their appreciation to The Willows and Encompass for the care given in her last days.
