Lynn M. Wolfley, 89, of Riverside passed away April 8, 2011, in Blackfoot, five days after his lifelong companion of 70 years, at The Willows Assisted Living Center.
Lynn was born May 12, 1921, in Etna, Wyo., the youngest of 11 children to Henry Louise and Jeanette May McGavin Wolfley. He attended first through eighth grade in Etna and graduated from Moreland High School in 1940, where he excelled as a boxer.
On Dec. 3, 1940, Lynn married Thelma Lou Adams in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including ward mission leader, High Priest group leader, and home teacher. He and his wife served a mission together in New Zealand in 1984. They also served as ordinance workers in the Idaho Falls Temple for many years. He enjoyed his callings and always served faithfully.
He served in World War II in 1945, as an infantryman and later in the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in July, 1946. He was very patriotic and loved his country.
His lifetime occupation was a farmer and dairyman. He farmed in Emmett prior to WWII. Upon returning from the service he purchased a farm in Riverside. He farmed in the Riverside-Moreland area for many years until his retirement in 1984.
He enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing, traveling with his wife and visiting his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially watching his son, grandsons, and great-grandsons wrestle.
He will be remembered for his hard work on his farm, as a provider for his family, and service to his friends and neighbors.
Lynn is survived by his children, Jerry Lynn (Dennis) Shanklin, of Glendale, Calif.; Lou Dawn (Tim) Hall of Gilbert, Ariz.; Shauna (Ted) Nielsen of Herriman, Utah; Karen (Greg) McCallon of Saugus, Calif.; R. Kim (Patricia) Wolfley of Moreland; 20 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents; brothers, Laron M., Louis Elmer, Robert M., William Henry, and Milford; sisters, Roziela, Magdalene, Elva, Theresa, and Kati.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2011, in the Moreland 6th Ward, Blackfoot Idaho Northwest Stake Center, (95 North 740 West, Moreland) conducted by Bishop Mark Adams. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the Wolfley family at email@example.com.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the compassionate staff at the Willows. The family also suggests memorials be made to the LDS Missionary Fund or to American Legion Stewart Hoover Post #23.
