Margaret Hillam Hansen, 84, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at her home from cancer.
She was born Feb. 8, 1930 in Marysville, Idaho, the daughter of George Marvin Hillam and Laura Mae Lemmon.
She grew up in Marysville and Ashton, Idaho.Â She attended elementary school in Marysville, Ashton and then at Madison High School.
Margaret served a LDS mission when she was 21 years old to the New England States.Â When she returned, she married her sweetheart, Alvon Jerry Hansen in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on April 11, 1952.
Margaret was a career homemaker who loved being a mother and grandmother.Â She wasÂ wonderful gardner and shared her bountiful harvests with her family and friends.Â She was also a seamstress that could â€śwhipâ€ť something up for any occasion.Â She sewed pajamas for all of the grandchildren.
Marg (as her sisters and brother called her) was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Â She served in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Primary, Young Womenâ€™s, and Relief Society.Â Marg loved the Relief Society where she served as ward and stake Relief Society president, but she really enjoyed serving as a visiting teacher.Â
She was a member of the DUP and served as president.Â
Margaret was a friend to all and consider everyone her friend.
She was a faithful companion to her dear husband, Jerry, for 61 great years. They served a mission together in the Columbus, Ohio mission in 1996.Â They traveled to Europe and enjoyed a few vacations, but they mostly enjoyed spending time at home.Â They loved attending their childrenâ€™s and grandchildrenâ€™s musicals, concerts, ball games and school programs.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Blackfoot;Â children, Eric (Janis) Hansen of Pingree; Jerralyn (Lyle) Bruce of Lacey, Wash.; Scott (Peggy) Hansen of Blackfoot; Kent (Paula) Hansen of Boardman, Ore.; Mark (Pamela) Hansen of Orem, Utah;, Marvin (Marie) Hansen of Arimo; George (Stephanie) Hansen of Pocatello and Lisa (Jeff) Watt of Blackfoot;Â 45 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren;Â siblings, Nina Meyers of Idaho Falls,; Grace Murdoch of Rexburg; Vonda Bjorn of Federal Way, Wash.; Lola Packer of Rexburg; Rulon (Marlene) Hillam of Blackfoot and Bernice (Bob) Davidson of Carmichael, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Thomas LDS Church, 1059 W.100 S., Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
