Marian DeLene Mortensen, 61, a former Blackfoot resident, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012, at her home in Edmond, Okla.
She was born in Ogden, Utah, on March 25, 1951.Â She was the oldest of five children adopted by Edwin Neher Mortensen and Georgia Moline Westover.Â She lived in Utah, Idaho, Connecticut, New York, and Oklahoma.Â
DeLene graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1969.Â She continued her education at Ricks College, later becoming a licensed practical nurse.Â Her specialty was special needs children and adults.
DeLene was known as the neighborhood babysitter.Â She loved music, played the clarinet and also took piano and organ lessons.Â She loved to sing and used her talent in music by becoming involved in choral groups and plays.
She has always had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and was very involved in the activities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
DeLene had a remarkable memory.Â She could recall birthdays, anniversaries, and special dates of family and friends.Â She would always send a note or take time to call.
She married Mark James Tanner on Jan. 4, 1975, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were later divorced.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers-in-law, Del Roy Smith and Dennis Storer.Â
She is survived by her siblings, Dale (Marolyn) Mortensen of Sugar City, Jacqueline Smith of Blackfoot, Ralph (Lois) Mortensen of Blackfoot and Jewel Storer of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho 83221.
The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 7-8 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
