Martha Ann Jenkins Burton, 76, of Blackfoot, passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at the Idaho Falls Care and Rehab Center.
She was born in Pocatello on Aug. 30, 1934, to Edward Ross and Minnie Hansen Jenkins.
Martha was raised and attended school in Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen High School in 1952.Â Following graduation she attended the College of Idaho and Yakima Business College.Â She lived and worked for a time in Seattle, Wash.Â
On May 21, 1961. she married Arthur LaMonte â€śBudâ€ť Burton.Â Their marriage was blessed with two children, Arthur L. and Ann Marie.Â When Ann Marie was born deaf, Martha worked very hard with her to teach her how to speak and never gave up helping her. Bud preceded Martha in death on July 4, 2004.
She was a member of The Blackfoot Southern Baptist Church, and was active in Eastern Star and Rebekahâ€™s Lodge.Â She was very kind and compassionate to everyone.Â
Martha devoted her time and talents to her family and home.Â She enjoyed ceramics, reading, playing the piano, knitting and crocheting.Â Playing cards with friends and Bible study were among her favorite pastimes.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie (Karl) Oester, of Pennsylvania; a brother, Keith (Cora Lee) Jenkins, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. â€śBudâ€ť Burton; her son, Arthur L. Burton; parents; brother, Bill Jenkins; half-brother, Gerald and half-sister, Barbara.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at the Groveland Cemetery.Â Â Arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at: email@example.com
