Marvin Arnold Jess, 80, of Blackfoot passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Bingham Memorial Hospital in Blackfoot.
Marvin was born Sept. 1, 1930 in Oreana, Idaho, to George Marvin and Zora Cable Jess.Â Marvin was raised and educated in Grandview.Â He continued on to Idaho State University and graduated with a bachelorâ€™s degree.Â He spent time in Grandview, Gooding, Twin Falls, Caldwell and Blackfoot.
Marvin served his country with the United States Navy in the Korean Conflict.
He worked at the Gooding School for the Deaf and Blind as a teacher for four years.Â Then he worked at Basic American Foods and at Simplot in Blackfoot.Â In his free time, he enjoyed reading, studying geology, gardening and rock collecting.
Marvin is survived by his son, Gary (Debra) Jess of Pocatello; daughter, Karla Jess of Salem, Ore.; Barbara (Larry) Houser of Chubbuck; Leslie (Richard) Sieger of Blackfoot; Donna Hawley of Blackfoot; Marva Vaughn of Gilbert, Ariz.; and Tammy Davis of Blackfoot, Idaho; brothers, George (Ellen) Jess of Grandview, Idaho and Robert (Rixie) Jess ofÂ Homedale; sisters, Elaine Kenworthy of Carey and Ann (Alvin) Smith of Oreana; 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Baker and Elzina Jess; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot. Family will meet with friends and relatives for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.Â Interment will follow at the Grove City Cemetery.Â Condolences may be sent to the family at firstname.lastname@example.org.
