Marvin Wayne Vail, 83, of Blackfoot passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Wayne was born March 28, 1929, in Pocatello,to Marvin James Vail and Elva Florence Neilson.¬†He was raised in Star Valley, Wyo.¬†At age 16, his family moved to Brigham City, Utah.¬†He graduated from Box Elder High School where he played fullback on the state championship, undefeated football team two years in a row.
¬†On May 4, 1951, Wayne married Audrey Talbot for time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple.¬†They were blessed with eight children, Shelley, Patty, David, Scott, Jeffrey, Karla, Rick and Valerie.
His greatest joy was his wife, family and love of the gospel.¬†He enjoyed anything he did with them, from chores to games to visiting.¬†He was very positive and outgoing; he never knew a stranger.
He was a great example to all who knew him.¬†He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.¬†He had a strong testimony of the gospel.¬†He and his wife, Audrey, served a mission in the Tennessee Nashville Mission.¬† He also served in several bishoprics, as a High Councilman, High Priest group leader, and served many years in Scouting.
Wayne served his country during the Korean War.¬†He was a member of the Army Air Corps, which changed to the Air Force while he was serving.
He was talented in many areas. He could accomplish anything he wanted.¬†If he wanted a barn, he‚Äôd build it; if his car broke down, he‚Äôd fix it.¬†¬†He never failed to rise to any challenge.¬† He was a beekeeper, welder, dairy farmer, rancher, carpenter, and more.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.¬†He started as a hunting guide early by helping his father, who was a guide also.¬†In his early years he‚Äôd hunt with his Dad, uncles, brothers and friends.¬†He always enjoyed his annual hunting trip to the Selway with his brothers-in-law and nephews. Later on he made sure his sons and grandsons were also included in the hunting and fishing.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Audrey of Blackfoot; children, Shelley (Richard) Jensen of Mantua, Utah; Patricia ‚ÄúPatty‚ÄĚ (Craig) Goodwin of Moreland; David (Miriam ‚ÄúMickie‚ÄĚ) Vail of Groveland; Scott (Vicki) Vail of Rupert; Jeffrey (Sheri) Vail of Rexburg; Karla (the late Bryan) Groom of Rexburg;¬†Eric ‚ÄúRick‚ÄĚ (Lisa) Vail of Rose and Valerie (Dan) Lloyd of Rexburg; sister, Marva Vail of Brigham City, Utah; 48 grandchildren; and 62 great-grandchildren.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Bryan Groom; brothers, Ornet, Dennis, Leon and Donald Vail; sister Eva Vail; and grandchildren, Katara Vail and Joseph Kimball.¬†
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Blackfoot South Stake Center, 900 Riverton Road in Blackfoot, with Bishop Richard Fowers conducting.¬† Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling Avenue in Blackfoot and from 11 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.¬† Interment will follow at the Moreland Cemetery.¬†
