Merle Eskelsen, 85

Merle Hillman Eskelsen, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Blackfoot  passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the age of 85.  Merle was the wife of the late Milton Dwayne Eskelsen of Blackfoot, Idaho.
             Merle was born on January 8, 1927, the daughter of Gheen Hillman and Eva Buxton in Driggs, Teton County, Idaho. 
             She graduated from Utah State and taught school in Thomas where she met her husband. She married her sweetheart, Milton Dwayne Eskelsen, on November 17, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.   She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints where she served as a faithful visiting teacher, camp director and worked in every auxiliary; Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School, and Young Women.
            She worked at the State Hospital South helping people integrate back into society. Mom loved all sports. Some of her hobbies were cooking, sewing, and 4-H.   Her last years she resided at Fairwinds in Idaho Falls.  During her time at Fairwinds she played cards and was very active and everyone commented on her smile.       She is survived by children, Milton (Betti), Steve (JoAnn), Merlene (Dave)Pasket, Karma, Darrell (Melanie), Nancy (Melvin) Ronneburg, Ron (Kimberly), Allen (Bonnie), and Richard (Crystal);  brothers, Russell(the late Colleen), John(Pat) and sister, Ronell (Dale) Breckenridge, brother in-law, Reed Richins and sister-in-law, Avon; beloved grandmother of 33, great-grandmother of 24 plus and beloved aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend.
            She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne; sisters, Eunice Wilcox and Flora Richins and brother, Vaughn.
            A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Blackfoot 11th Ward LDS Chapel, 520 N. Shilling Ave.
            The family will meet with friends on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
            Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
