Merzel Viola Truchot Decker, 72, of Pocatello, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at Pocatello Care and Rehab in Pocatello, Idaho from a lingering illness.
She was born May 26, 1938 in Fort Hall, Idaho to Victor George and Teola Ella Metz Truchot.
Merzel attended elementary schools in Fort Hall and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1956. She later attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevenâ€™s Point where she earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
She married Acreen Decker, Sr. in 1958. To this union three children were born, Acreen, Jr., Janell and LaNae. They were later divorced.
Merzel worked at the Not-tsoo-Gah-nee Indian Health Clinic for 30 years and retired as Unit Director in 1994.
She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, word searches, going to the Casino and watching cooking shows.
She is survived by her children, Acreen â€śWillieâ€ť Decker, Jr. of Fort Hall, Idaho, Janell Decker of Pocatello, Idaho, LaNae â€śBeetleâ€ť Decker of Fort Hall, Idaho; brother, Lvern (Regina) Truchot, Sr. of Gallup, New Mexico; sisters, Elberta (Bernard) Eschief of Gibson, Idaho and Belma Colter of Tyhee, Idaho; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Dennis Colter.
Beginning at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 family will greet visitors at the Good Shepard Episcopal Church in Fort Hall. Viewing will continue until the next day, Wednesday, when a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the family to help offset final expenses.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hawker Funeral Home, 132 South Shilling in Blackfoot.
